BOM Intelligence is a unique functionality to BOM Insight, providing tremendously insightful data into your entire BOM. The intelligence provided is a consolidation of data from the Part Intelligence of all parts, thereby helping you to understand the makeup and risks of your entire BOM in one report.

Any insights from a commodity analysis are derived from Commodity IQ intelligence when a CIQ module subscription has been enabled for your account. Sections within the screenshots that highlighted in blue are only visible with a CIQ subscription.

BOM Intelligence Overview

The BOM Intelligence page is accessible by clicking on Intelligence in the top toolbar above your list name when viewing a BOM.

This page offers detailed statistics for your BOM, which includes:

In this screenshot, you can see the entire layout of the BOM Intelligence page. Then a detailed explanation is available below it for the various sections. Sections within the screenshot that are highlighted in blue are only visible with a CIQ subscription.

Intelligence Summary

At the top of the page is the BOM's intelligence summary, as seen in this screenshot, which is a view of all of your parts details and their statuses. The information included is: Created Date/By, Total parts, Number of line items, Parts need your attention, Items with available CO2e data, and CO2e Total (kg).

To the right of that is the Status section of your BOM's filters, detailing out the line counts and percentage of parts that are: Matching requirements, With exact match, With no exact match, Without price info, IPNs/CPNs and MPNs Not in part master, No req. manufacturer match, Not matching stock, Don't match SP channel stock, and Don't match WP channel stock.

Below that section is the BOM Price and Price Sources summaries. This shows you the total Price, the total Excess Cost, and CO2e Total (kg) for each of your BOM's quantity breaks and price sources breakdown. The sourcing is broken out and illustrated with line count, percentages, and total cost for each price source as utilized in your BOM.

To the top right is the BOM's AI Insight summary, which is only visible with a CIQ module subscription. This feature will take a comprehensive look at the BOM and the different commodities inside the BOM. The AI Insight summarizes up to date market information to extract the essence of what matters most about the commodity trends in the context of strategic sourcing and procurement. This helps you to mitigate potential cost escalations and ensure your projects stay on budget. This can be essential for new product introductions, and keeping you one step ahead of the project planning.

Cost By Commodity, Supplier, and Manufacturer

Next, you can see the cost of your BOM as laid out by type of impact: Commodity, Supplier or Manufacturer. You’ll see the total cost for each quantity break and percentage of their impact on your list. The section within the screenshot for Cost by Commodity highlighted in blue is only visible with a CIQ subscription.

Part Details By Origin, Life Cycle, YTEOL, Lead Times, and Suppliers

Following the Cost sections are details regarding your list's various Country of Origin, summary of the MPN Life Cycle of all parts, and their Years to End-of-Life. As available, you can also see an overview of all Lead Times and Supplier details. When applicable, it will specify if the Lead Time is estimated.

Suppliers Source Risk

The Suppliers Source Risk displays the Number of Sources currently available for an MPN in your BOM. This intelligence is showing the Number of suppliers currently sourcing a component.

You can easily see how many of your parts have 1, 2, 3, etc suppliers to source that specific part. This way you can research and decide if the sourcing availability of a part is an acceptable risk. When you click on a link under the Number of Sources, that will take you back to your BOM to a filtered view showing you only the MPN(s) for that supplier source risk you clicked on.

MPN Risk Index

The Intelligence provided here is regarding the assessment of risk of your various parts by the BOM's MPN Risk Index. The risk indices are grouped as 10-digit increments to summarize parts potentially riskier than others.

Alternates Coverage

Lastly is your Alternates Coverage, which shows the risk determined by the number of Alternates you’ve added to your CPNs in the BOM. This shows the actual count of alternates for each CPN in your BOM, both originally within your file when uploaded, as well as manually added to a part within your BOM.

However, this section does not refer to how many alternates may exist or show as a potential alternate for a part.

Comparing BOMs Intelligence

You can then also use analytics from the BOM Intelligence as a way to compare different Versions (or scenarios) of your BOM. Please see the article on Comparing BOMs for more information.
