The Alerts functionality within a BOM enables you to stay appraised of inventory changes for parts in your list and product change notices.
This Stock alerts feature will send you alerts to notify you of inventory changes, such as when parts become available or stock suppliers are falling short. These alerts are based on your web settings in your Settings: Cost Prioritization and BOM permissions.
You can also configure PCN (Product Change Notification) alerts to be notified if one of the parts in your BOMs will incur a life cycle change, End-of-Life notices, and all other product change notifications. Knowing when a part incurs a life cycle change, especially towards "End of Life", can you help inform you that a part will be discontinued.
This functionality is accessible from the top navigation bar in your list by clicking on Alerts. This will open the Set Alert modal on the right side. You will first need to toggle on "Alert Enabled for Web Data". The toggle switch is what turns the alert on or disables it.
There are two tabs within the alerts modal: Stock and PCN. On the Stocks alerts tab, you can specify the Alert Name and Alert Frequency (Instant/Daily/Weekly email). The Alert Expire Date can be set to 1 week, 3 weeks, or a month.
Available Stock alerts include:
- Unavailable parts match requested quantity
- Parts from specific supplier become available
- Previously available parts become unavailable
- Previously available parts from specific supplier become unavailable
Unavailable parts match requested quantity: With 'All Suppliers' selected you will receive an alert when a part becomes available from any supplier. With 'Preferred suppliers first' selected, the system will prioritize to check your preferred suppliers first and then availability from any supplier.
Parts from specific supplier become available: This alert is based on the distributor selected for the line.
Previously available parts become unavailable: With 'All Suppliers' selected, you will receive an alert if a part becomes unavailable for the already selected distributor, as well as all the other distributors. With 'Preferred suppliers first' or 'Preferred suppliers only' you will receive an alert when the selected distributor and all the preferred distributors become unavailable.
Previously available parts from specific supplier become unavailable: You will receive an alert if parts from your selected distributor for the line become unavailable.
Once you've specified your inventory alerts and preferences, then click on Save Changes.
On the PCN alerts tab, you can specify the Alert Name and Alert Frequency (Instant/Weekly/Monthly email). The Alert Expire Date can be set to 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months or 18 months.
Available PCN alerts include:
- Product change
- Product End of Life
- Product lifecycle change
Product change: You will receive an alert if a product change happens to the parts in BOMs.
Product End of Life: You will receive an alert if part's status will change to End of life.
Product lifecycle change: You will receive an alert if any lifecycle change happens to the parts in BOMs, for example, going from Active to Transferred.
Once you've specified your PCN alerts and preferences, then click on Save Changes.
