BOM Insight provides potential corrections as available for MPNs in your BOM through its “Did you mean?” Suggestions. This can be used when needing to correct line items with no exact part matches for the MPNs in your list.

By clicking on the Status filter of Parts need attention, you can filter your list to display any bad parts, which include those that had No exact match, No req. manufacturer match, Not matching stock, and Without price info. This can be accessed in your BOM below its name or in the side filter toolbar. You can also click directly on the status filter of No exact match when wanting to view only those MPNs that need correcting.

For parts that have ”No exact match”, this filter displays parts where BOM Insight was unable to find an exact match from the data uploaded in your file for that line item's MPN. When Supplyframe has found potential Suggestions to correct the part, you'll see Suggested Parts in the Manufacturer Part Number column. It will display the first found suggestion of those possibilities in the Manufacturer/Supplier column.

You can accept suggested part corrections either line by line; by utilizing the "Last Pick"; from other suggested options; or by selecting multiple parts to correct in bulk when clicking on Accept Suggestions.

When there are multiple suggestions, click on either the MPN or the "show more suggested parts" in the Manufacturer/Supplier column to view all of its suggested parts. Clicking on either will open up the same modal window.

You'll see potential Suggestions in the modal on the "Did you mean?" tab. As available, you'll see the suggestion's Part Number, PDF datasheet, Life Cycle, Description, Manufacturer, and Risk Rank. You can sort the results in ascending or descending by any of the column headers with arrows. Click on Replace to update the MPN to your selection or click on Add to keep both your original part and include the suggestion as an alternate.

The comparison icon on the right allows you to review your part with individual suggestions side by side to see the similarities and differences as the information is available. You can also select multiple suggestions and click on the Compare button in the upper left to see multiple parts listed side by side with additional details. From the comparison page, you can export the details as needed.

Clicking on Save will correct and replace your part in the BOM with the first listed suggestion or you can click on Cancel. You can also click on Close in the modal when you've finished reviewing in order to just return to your BOM.

Note: MPNs added from the suggestions modal are subject to the price cost settings in order to determine the manufacturer.

Suggestion Parameters, "Did you mean?"

The system uses an algorithm to suggest parts based on both part number similarity and key attributes (e.g., category, tolerance, voltage). The closest match, determined by string distance and relevant parameters, will appear as the top suggestion.

        • For example, suppose the part number in question is ABC. Its characteristic parametric fields are X, Y, and Z. Therefore, it returns part numbers with the same parametric characteristic, i.e., the part numbers with identical X, Y, and Z values and closest string distance at the top of the "Did you mean?" list, i.e., ABD, ABA, ABB, DEF.
            •
        • Part numbers with the same characteristics don't need to "look" similar, i.e., "Did you mean?" part number for ABC in this case might be DEF.

*Corrections
When someone in your account has corrected the part previously in BOM Insight, then Supplyframe can supply that data from other users’ corrections. This will display as the "Last Pick" button option.

At the bottom of the Suggestions modal, you'll see the field Replace Part Number. When a new part number is entered into that field, then it will trigger new Suggestions results in the window.

The data displayed in the Did you mean? tab and the count of records will be updated to reflect the new parameters based on the part entered in that field. Also, results will be cleared when the modal is then closed or the page is refreshed.

There is also the capability to export.
